Common Sports Injuries We Treat

Sports injuries can develop suddenly from a fall, collision or awkward movement. They can also build gradually from repetitive activity, training errors, limited mobility or inadequate recovery.

Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Injuries

Shoulder pain may affect lifting, throwing, pressing, swimming or reaching overhead. Treatment focuses on identifying limitations in shoulder movement, muscle function and surrounding areas that may be contributing to the problem.

Elbow, Wrist and Forearm Pain

Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and other overuse injuries can make gripping, lifting and repetitive arm movements uncomfortable. These conditions are common in racquet sports, golf, weight training and occupations involving repeated hand use.

Low Back Pain and Sciatica

Running, lifting, golf, contact sports and prolonged sitting can all place stress on the lower back. We evaluate spinal movement, hip mobility, muscle function and lifting mechanics to determine what may be contributing to your symptoms.

Hip and Groin Injuries

Hip pain, groin strains and limited hip mobility can interfere with running, squatting, jumping and changing direction. Care may include treatment of the hip, pelvis and surrounding soft tissues, along with exercises to improve movement and strength.

Knee Pain

Knee pain may be associated with running, jumping, squatting, stairs or sudden changes in direction. Common problems include runner’s knee, patellar tendon pain and movement-related irritation.

Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains can affect balance, stability and confidence long after the initial swelling improves. Rehabilitation may focus on restoring ankle mobility, strength, balance and control before returning to sport.

Achilles Tendon Pain

Achilles tendon problems are common in runners, jumpers and athletes who rapidly increase their activity. Treatment may address calf tightness, ankle mobility, training load and foot mechanics.

Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain

Heel pain can make walking, running and standing uncomfortable. Our evaluation considers the foot, ankle, calf, footwear and movement mechanics. Class IV laser therapy and custom orthotics may be recommended when appropriate.

Muscle Strains

Hamstring, calf, quadriceps, groin and other muscle strains require more than waiting for the pain to disappear. A structured recovery plan can help restore mobility, strength and readiness for activity.

Pain often appears in one location, but the underlying contributing factors may involve other parts of the body.

For example, knee pain may be influenced by limited hip or ankle movement. Shoulder pain may be affected by restrictions in the upper back. Foot pain may be related to calf tightness, footwear or lower-extremity mechanics.

That is why our evaluation looks beyond the location of your symptoms.

Sudden increases in training volume or intensity

Repetitive movements

Limited joint mobility

Muscle weakness or imbalance

Poor lifting or movement mechanics

Inadequate warm-up

Insufficient recovery

Returning to activity too quickly

Previous injuries that were never fully rehabilitated

Poor footwear or foot mechanics

Fatigue

Changes in playing surface or equipment

Some sports injuries happen in a single moment. Others develop slowly because the body is repeatedly exposed to more stress than it is prepared to handle.

Factors that may contribute to a sports injury include:

Why Do Sports Injuries Happen?

The purpose of the evaluation is to determine what is injured, identify contributing factors and decide whether your condition is appropriate for care in our office.

Orthopedic testing

Neurological screening when appropriate

Strength testing

Joint and soft-tissue evaluation

Posture assessment

Balance and stability testing

Review of lifting, running or sport-related mechanics when appropriate

Foot and gait evaluation when relevant

Your first visit begins with a conversation about what happened, how the injury is affecting you and what activities you want to return to.

Your evaluation may include:

Why Athletes and Active Adults Choose APM Sports Chiropractic

Do I need to be an athlete to schedule an appointment?

No. We treat competitive athletes, recreational athletes, weekend warriors and active adults who want to move better and return to the activities they enjoy.

dO i Need a referral?

Most patients do not need a referral to schedule a chiropractic appointment. Insurance requirements can vary, so contact our office if you have questions about your specific plan.

Do you accept insurance?

APM Accepts both insurance and cash cients.

APM Sports Chiropractic participates with several major insurance plans, including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna (ASH) and UnitedHealthcare, along with others. Coverage and benefits vary by plan and will need to be verified.

Some services, including certain laser packages, orthotics and specialized programs, may be self-pay.

Will I receive treatment during my first appointment?

Yes. In the majority of cases, treatment will begin during the first visit when it is clinically appropriate. The amount and type of treatment will depend on your examination findings and the nature of your injury.

Do You Only Do Adjustments?

No.

While chiropractic adjustments are an important part of care for many patients, they are just one of the treatment options we offer. Depending on your injury and goals, your care may also include soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, Class IV laser therapy, stretching, taping or custom orthotics.

Do I Have To Get Adjusted?

No. Every treatment plan is personalized based on your injury, examination findings and comfort level.

If a chiropractic adjustment is appropriate for your condition, your doctor will explain why it's being recommended and answer any questions before treatment begins. However, not every patient requires the same type of care. Depending on your injury and goals, your treatment plan may also include soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, stretching, Class IV laser therapy, taping or custom orthotics.

Our priority is recommending the treatments that are most appropriate for helping you recover and get back to doing what you love.

How long will it take to recover?

Recovery time varies based on the injury, its severity, how long it has been present, your activity demands and how consistently you follow the recommended plan.

After your evaluation, we will discuss what you can reasonably expect.
